Our Schematic Design review required us to model in Revit for the first time and get used to the system of loading families and creating components.

We also had to refine our concepts, our typical plans and unit layouts, and devise passive and active strategies for lighting and ventilation. I oriented my building such that it would facilitate the cross-ventilation of NNE-SSW winds while ensuring that the minimal number of units were affected by the direct east-west sun.

My design revolves around subcommunities within the entire residence, creating sky gardens every two floors so that communal spaces are equally accessible to everyone, including the elderly. Such a configuration encourages elderly to get out of their apartments more and interact with their neighbours without having to stray too far from their homes.

Furthermore, the building rotates every two floors, creating the spiralling effect of a double helix. This allows for spacious, high-ceiling open-air spaces of different heights that can facilitate different activities, such as yoga, playgrounds, or farming.
